How to Make Your Graphic Tees Last for Years
Share
There's nothing worse than a graphic tee you love fading after a handful of washes. The good news: most premature fading isn't the shirt's fault — it's the laundry routine. A few small changes will keep your prints crisp and your colors rich for years.
Wash Cold, Always
Heat is the enemy of printed graphics. Hot water breaks down both the ink and the fabric fibers faster. Wash your graphic tees in cold water on a gentle cycle. It cleans just as well for everyday wear and dramatically extends the life of the print.
Turn Them Inside Out
This is the single easiest thing you can do. Turning tees inside out before they go in the washer means the printed side doesn't rub against other clothes, the drum, or the agitator. Less friction = less cracking and peeling. Make it a habit and you'll notice the difference within a month.
Skip the Harsh Stuff
Bleach and harsh stain removers will eat a graphic print alive. If you need to treat a stain, dab a small amount of gentle stain remover on the inside of the shirt, never directly on the print. And go easy on fabric softener — it can leave a residue that dulls prints over time.
Drying: Low Heat or Line Dry
The dryer is where most graphic tees go to die. High heat cracks plastisol and DTF prints and shrinks cotton. If you must use the dryer, choose low heat or tumble dry low, and pull the shirt out promptly. Even better: hang dry. It takes a little longer, but your tees will thank you — the fit stays true and the graphic stays sharp.
Storage Matters Too
Don't leave graphic tees crumpled in a ball. Fold them with the print facing inward, or hang them on wide hangers (thin wire hangers stretch out collars). Keep them out of direct sunlight in storage — UV fades prints even when you're not wearing them.
Why It Matters for Made-to-Order Tees
Our tees are printed to order with a DTF process — meaning your shirt is made fresh when you buy it, not pulled from a warehouse shelf. That freshness is a feature, but it also means the print is at its most vibrant on day one. Following these care steps protects that day-one look for the long haul.
Take care of your tees, and they'll take care of your style. A well-kept graphic tee doesn't just last longer — it looks better every time you wear it.
